Myanmar’s shrimp export volume, while significant, is lower compared to some other major shrimp-producing countries in the Asia-Pacific region:
✅In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Myanmar exported around 10,000 metric tons of shrimp worth $38.18 million[1]. This was a decline from the previous year’s 16,050 tonnes worth $56.647 million.
✅In comparison, India, one of the world’s largest shrimp exporters, exported over 700,000 metric tons of shrimp in 2022-23.
✅Indonesia, another major player, exported around 500,000 metric tons of shrimp in 2022.
✅Ecuador was the largest exporter of frozen seawater shrimp in 2023, accounting for 35.9% of global exports worth $7.1 billion.
✅India was the second largest exporter of frozen seawater shrimp in 2023, with $4.3 billion in exports.
So while Myanmar remains an important contributor to the Asia-Pacific shrimp market, its export volumes are significantly lower than major producers like India and Indonesia, and it does not feature among the top global exporters like Ecuador and India. Myanmar’s shrimp exports have also declined from pre-pandemic levels.
